Volunteers are an integral part of the YMCA Youth Sports Program. To be frank – we can’t do it without you! From coaching to team communication and coordination, we need people just like you to help us teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and game fundamentals. Do you not feel like an expert in your child’s favorite sport? No problem at all! We’ve done this for over 150 years and have many resources to share to help you feel more comfortable. This commitment is roughly two hours a week and includes a one-hour practice during the week in the evening and a one-hour game on Saturdays. The season will last for the season last 7-9 weeks. The YMCA of Greater Birmingham has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. This is a unique chance to contribute to a supportive community and help individuals on their wellness journey. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to assist our instructors with member needs, equipment setup, and member engagement. Your presence and support will play a vital role in creating an enriching and empowering experience for our participants. Session Dates: January 6th – March 28th, 2025 April 7th – June 27th July 7th – September 26th October 6th – December 26th Locations, Days and Times: Greystone YMCA 5414 US-280 Birmingham, AL 35242 Days and times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12:30pm – 1:30pm Pelham YMCA 2610 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL 35124 Days and times: Tuesday and Friday 12:30pm – 1:30pm If you’re available during these times and are eager to lend a helping hand, we’d love to have you on board. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to contribute and make a difference. Working with instructors, volunteers will: 1. Monitor participants for form, focus, fall risks 2. Help with transfer to/from wheelchairs 3. Give personalized modifications for cognitive/physical challenges All Volunteers must complete the following requirements: 1. Applications 2. Interview 3. Background Check 4. Read and acknowledge all required waivers and policies. 5. Complete online Parkinson's Training 6. CPR/1st Aid (optional at this time)

The YMCA’s Teen Leadership programs are a hallmark. We believe this is the age to join your peers and experience opportunities to deepen your interests and understanding of the importance of becoming a leader. Teens who have completed 8th grade can apply to volunteer at one of our many day camps this summer. Volunteering at day camp teaches teens how to work with children, helps them learn essential job skills, and helps prepare them for the future. Applications for the 2024 Camp season are now open!
