YMCA of Greater Birmingham

Volunteer with the YMCA’s FREE Summer Lunch Program! This is a great opportunity for families, churches, workplaces, friends, teens, and anybody wishing to make a meaningful impact in their community! Volunteer for as little as a couple of hours for one day, choose several days, or volunteer all summer! The YMCA of Greater Birmingham has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. To ensure the safety of all children in our programs, all volunteers working with youth and teens must complete the following: 1. Complete Application 2. References 3. Background Check (completed every 2 years) 4. Child Abuse Prevention Training (annually) 5. Signed Code of Conduct and Abuse Prevention Policies and Procedures 6. Transportation Waiver - for those that ride the bus from the Y to lunch location

We’re excited to share details about a special program we’ll be offering this summer in partnership with the Food Bank of Central Alabama. Please review the information below so you’re prepared to answer any questions from community members who call or stop by. Program Overview We are serving as a distribution site for a summer food assistance program designed to support families in need. This is a free service and operates on the honor system—no registration or verification required. What’s Provided Each family will receive a box that may include: Fresh produce Proteins (including frozen items) Snack packs Pantry staples (supplemented by member donations) Distribution Details Format: Drive-thru food pickup Location: Side and back of the building (under the large white tent) Pickup Time for Families: 2:00–3:00 PM Summer Dates June 1 & June 22 July 6 & July 27 August 3 & August 24

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer with the YMCA’s FREE Summer Lunch Program! This is a great opportunity for families, churches, workplaces, friends, teens, and anybody wishing to make a meaningful impact in their community! Volunteer for any days Monday-Friday, June 1 - August 7, 2026. Once you have completed the required information, staff will reach out to get you signed up for available volunteer shifts! Two types of Volunteers are needed: 1. Onsite at Hoover YMCA: making sandwiches, packing lunches, and loading the transportation vehicles. 2. Offsite at the Program Location: unloading transportation vehicles, setting up food serving areas, distributing lunches, and engaging with the community through planned activities The YMCA of Greater Birmingham has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. Volunteers are an integral part of the YMCA Youth Sports Program. To be frank – we can’t do it without you! From coaching to team communication and coordination, we need people just like you to help us teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and game fundamentals. Do you not feel like an expert in your child’s favorite sport? No problem at all! We’ve done this for over 150 years and have many resources to share to help you feel more comfortable. This commitment is roughly two hours a week and includes a one-hour practice during the week in the evening and a one-hour game on Saturdays. The season will last for the season last 7-9 weeks. The YMCA of Greater Birmingham has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. To ensure the safety of all children in our programs, all volunteer coaches must complete the following before being assigned to a team: 1. Complete Application 2. Interview** 3. Reference Checks 4. Your presence and support will play a vital role in creating an enriching and empowering experience for our participants.
